California Special Education
Summit II
In December of 2004, several organizations with special education interests, including The Access Center, sponsored The California Special Education Summit II in Sacramento.
Prior to the Summit, potential participants were surveyed to determine their priorities for the Summit content. Relevant presentations were then planned and delivered at the Summit. Topics included literacy research and strategies, IEPs, IDEA 2004, math research and strategies, and early intervention/mental health initiatives. Following the presentations, Summit participants met in facilitated discussion groups to share successes, challenges, and policy implications relevant to each presentation area.
The Access Center has compiled this information into a summary document. This overall proceedings document highlights the themes addressed in the various sessions and includes specific participant comments. We hope you will find this document helpful in planning future events, agendas, and dialogue around key special education issues.
