State-to-State Sharing

Representatives from 13 states and 1 territory participated in the first year of the State-to-State Information Sharing Community; many of those continued in the second year. Each state sent a team of interdisciplinary professionals who represented a variety of perspectives. Following presentations from nationally recognized content specialists and researchers, participants then discussed the most effective ways to implement the research-based programs, practices, and tools that were discussed. Meeting participants and Access Center staff also shared applicable tools and resources available to assist states in their efforts to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities.

2003-04 State Information Sharing Community

During two State ISC meetings held in Washington, D.C. in September and October, 2003, states exchanged views and information on each of four critical areas relative to expanding access to the general education curriculum:

  • Scaling up research-based practices in reading,
  • Scaling up research-based practices in mathematics,
  • Providing students supports and accommodations in the classroom and on assessments, and
  • Aligning individualized education plans (IEPs) to state standards.
