California Special Education Summit II
Access Center staff members traveled to Sacramento in December, 2004 to help lead a statewide summit with key stakeholder groups, including Association of California School Administrators, California Association of School Psychologists, CEC, parent advocacy groups, teachers, and administrators. Access Center staff trained facilitators, gave a presentation on math, served on an IDEA Panel, and provided summary remarks at the end of the summit. NCAC staff developed case stories that pertain specifically to improving access to and progress within the general education curriculum.

IDEA Public Meetings Schedule
The U.S. Department of Education is looking for public input as it develops proposed rules to implement programs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA). The proposed regulations are expected out by the end of this month, and final regulations are due out by the end of the year.
Department of Education Issues Topical Briefs on the New IDEA Law
The U.S. Department of Education recently issued topical briefs on 16 subjects that highlight major changes to IDEA. These one- to three-page briefs are only a summary of what is in the law, and do not give the Department’s views or interpretation of the law. Some of the topics covered include Alignment with NCLB, Discipline, Disproportionality, Statewide and Districtwide Assessments, and Highly Qualified Teachers. |
