Access Center Collaborates with Louisiana to Promote Inclusive Practices
The Access Center is a collaborative member of the Louisiana Department of Education’s Validated Practices Initiative. The VP Committee, supported by the LA Division of Special Populations, is charged with developing a plan to promote inclusive practices both in the classroom and in communities across the state. The steering committee, which includes administrators, educators, government officials, university faculty, and members of the community, has been meeting in an effort to develop a blue-print that will guide state-wide change over the next five years. In June 2005 the Access Center shared the results of a needs assessment with the VP Committee. This data, regarding the needs of district-level special education administrators, principals, and families of children with disabilities in relation to accessing the general education curriculum, is being used to help guide steering committee decisions.
