Our Team
Jacki Bootel joined AIR in October 2004. She is staffed on the Access Center as a Communications Specialist. She works on recruitment and outreach for the Center by helping to develop external communications materials and supports work related to the Center’s Information Sharing Communities service. Jacki provides technical and content guidance to the Center’s Web site and assists the Access Center team in developing products, presentations, and related communications materials. Jacki is also staffed on the National Center on Student Progress Monitoring,
an OSEP-funded technical assistance project that
is dedicated to the implementation of scientifically based student progress monitoring.
Before coming to AIR, Jacki was employed at the Council for Exceptional Children. During her 11 years at CEC, Jacki worked as a Policy Specialist for Field Operations in the Council’s Public Policy Unit. In her position, Jacki provided technical assistance to CEC’s 67+ volunteer Children and Youth Action Network (CAN) Coordinators throughout the country, helping them to establish and maintain their CAN networks. She wrote a weekly Policy update about important legislation, regulations, or policies that affect the special education field; this update was sent directly to over 1,100 members, who then disseminated the information to their respective networks.  Jacki also developed and conducted advocacy training for CEC members, providing them with tools to become more effective advocates. She launched and maintained CEC’s on-line Legislative Action Center, which enabled CEC members to send messages to their members of Congress, the Administration, and the media quickly and easily. Jacki also contributed policy-related articles to CEC’s newsletter, “CEC Today,” as well as providing Unit information for CEC’s Website.Â
Before her employment at CEC, Jacki worked at LRP Publications, where she was the News Editor for two biweekly publications: The Special Educator, and the Disability Compliance Bulletin.
Jacki earned her B.A. in Journalism from the Pennsylvania State University.
